Newport Desk by Jeffrey Greene

This mahogany desk is an exacting replica of an unpublished original in a private collection in which Mr. Greene found the inscription S. Goddard. Stephen Goddard (1764-1804) was the 12th of 16 children born to cabinetmaker John Goddard, and one of six sons who worked with him in the family shop.

The desk is dovetailed throughout in the exact manner of the original and features brass hardware custom-made to match. 42½" w, 41½" h

Jeffrey Greene’s Goddard tall-case clock replicates the only known Newport clock authenticated to the Goddard family shop. The original was made in the early 1790s and bears the inscription of Stephen Goddard, who continued the family business after John Goddard’s death in 1785.

The clock is mahogany and features a blocked door with shell, and an historically correct weight-driven movement with an engraved brass dial. 95" h.
