An unusual Uzbek rug (lot 5001) and a handsome Tekke Main carpet (lot 5002) start the sale and represent Central Asia, as do a Tekke Ensi (lot 5009) and a Yomut Torba (lot 5074).
Several Caucasian rugs appear throughout the sale with a couple of examples in a Prayer format (lots 5004 and 5005), a charming Zakatala with an ivory field (lot 5088), and a colorful Soumac carpet with a red ground (lot 5121). A rare pair of 18th century Kaitag Embroidered panels from Dagestan also feature (lot 5132).
A strong group of Heriz, Serapi and Bakshaish Carpets are represented in the sale including a red ground Heriz Carpet with an indigo petal-form medallion (lot 5084), a Serapi Carpet that is 20 ft. x 12 ft. with a floating ivory medallion on a crimson ground (lot 5159) and an unusual Bakshaish Carpet with an overall design of weeping willows (lot 5123).
Antique decorative carpets are highlighted by an ivory ground Sultanabad Carpet (lot 5006), a large classic Bidjar Carpet (lot 5014), an elegant Tabriz (lot 5156), an allover square Kirman (lot 5017) and a finely woven and highly detailed Qum rug (lot 5104). |
