There is a joy in seeing an important invention for the first time. This 29" long device is a 19th-century replica of a telescope by Galileo, whose crude device provided compelling evidence that the earth revolved around the sun. The model fetched $2310 from an Annapolis, Maryland, collector. Chuck DeLuca's (Maritime Auctions) Hyannis, Massachusetts, marine auction, July 20, 1996.
