The Saint Louis Art Museum has acquired Sunburst in the Riesengebirge, a 10" x 12½" oil on canvas by German painter Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840). The museum purchased the painting on December 12, 2018, at Sotheby’s in London for $2,720,095 (includes buyer’s premium). The estimate was $626,750/877,450.
